35.8%
of all babies born in the U.S. are born to single moms.
Many
of these women turn to welfare assistance.
The
cost of a woman on welfare assistance is over $10,000
per year, often
totaling over $180,000 during the life of her child.
Community
House offers assistance to women ages 18-24 that are
facing pregnancy alone in Portland. We provide
education, training and support to help them make wise
choices for their future and their babies.
Our
goal is to empower women to care for themselves and
to make parenting plans for their babies, free from
poverty and the need for welfare assistance
The
cost of a woman residing at the Community House is
$5,000-$6,000. A woman stays one year or less and
does not need to
rely on welfare after completing our program. Services
include professional counseling, mentors and social
workers, as well as programs to help complete their
education and attain a job
The
home was donated to Orphan’s Overseas, and $.95 of
every dollar contributed goes directly to caring for
our residents
The
home is located in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and was
opened in 2002
